You know how every now and then you come across a deliciously abstruse blog, something that opens a peekaboo into a world you’re curious, but know not much about? Well ManaDee has one such minefield of a music blog that I’ve been following for over a year now. If you’re into reading up the scoop on obscurely awesome music, and want all the right tidbits, this is the place for you. It’s where I discovered Maya Jane Coles, Gramatik, Hindi Zahra and Kimbra and some other wonderful music that has kept me company this past year.
Even as we shared a workspace, sat adjacent to each other and often exchanged and obsessed about a whole lot of musical discoveries, there was always a joy in seeing a blog update from Listen, pop up on my reader. Because each time, it meant a peek into something new and fun. Something I had almost never
seen heard before.
So when she asked me to do a recurring guest post featuring a slice of my musical escapades every now and then, I was only too happy to oblige. Here’s the first of what will hopefully be an oft-repeating feature. If you feel like you’ve seen it before, its probably because you have — in a slightly altered form, not so long ago. But Sideways to Sound is wild, subtle, exquisite, exciting and unique — all at once. So go on an give it a read none the less.
And the music’s worth more than a listen too.
